Oak Honey - A single drop—and you taste the roots of mythology.
Oak Honey - A single drop—and you taste the roots of mythology.
The oak was Zeus’s sacred tree—a symbol of strength, endurance, and divine order.
This rare honey comes from remote oak forests of the Greek mainland, especially mountain regions like Nafpaktia. Here, bees do not collect flower nectar, but honeydew from the bark of centuries-old oak trees (Quercus spp.)—rich in minerals, robust in aroma, and earthy in character.
A study led by Chrisoula Tananaki at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki examined 48 honey varieties and found Greek oak honey to have the highest antioxidant activity, surpassing even the widely promoted Manuka honey, which ranked sixth.

Colour: A deep, almost mahogany dark brown, often with a black core and reddish-bronze highlights. In the jar, it resembles molasses or reduced syrup—a visual cue to its density and primal nature.

Consistency: Very thick and heavy, almost syrupy. Due to its low glucose content, oak honey remains liquid for a long time, crystallizing slowly and finely. Its texture is concentrated and smooth, perfect for spooning.

Flavour & aroma: Deep, malty, and rustic. On the nose, it unfolds notes of bark, wet wood, herbal earth, with hints of smoke, caramel, and licorice. An archaic, dark scent reminiscent of ancient forests, campfires, and wet stones.

Flavor Profile: Entry: Robust, slightly malty
Heart: Dark notes of molasses, bittersweet chocolate, and roasted nuts
Finish: Long, slightly resinous and mineral—with noticeable depth and minimal sweetness
→ Not a classically sweet honey, but an aromatic force of nature.
Health Benefits: Extremely rich in minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium & phosphorus
Strengthens the immune system, ideal for fatigue or anemia
Antioxidant effect—protects cells from stress
Slow sugar release—ideal for long-lasting energy

→ Studies show: Oak honey is among the most antioxidant-active honeys in Europe.
Sehr sehr gut
